French-Style Ceramic Butter Keeper, using a simple method that dates back to the 16th century for keeping butter fresh. Simply keep the base filled with approx 1/3C cool water, and butter packed into the "lid". When closed, the butter is submerged in the water, thereby sealed away from the outside air and keeping it fresh and insulated from extreme temperatures. Even during hot summer months in the South of France, butter crocks will stop butter from melting when it is kept on the counter.
When you place the butter bell inside the water-filled crock, it completely seals the butter so that oxygen and bacteria can't get in. The result? The butter stays fresh up to a month. The butter is soft and spreadable all the time.
